Hi all,

Cool, the System Center Configuration Manager R3 version is available for download HERE.

What’s new?

Configuration Manager 2007 R3 provides a set of tools that enable the site administrator to manage and monitor the power consumption of computers in the enterprise. Configuration Manager 2007 R3 features improvements to operating system deployment for pre-staging boot image and .wim files. Configuration Manager 2007 R3 introduces Active Directory delta discovery, dynamic collection evaluation and administrator console improvements that improve the scale and performance of Configuration Manager 2007.

The following features are new to Configuration Manager 2007 R3.

  • Power Management: Provides a set of tools that enable the site administrator to configure standard Windows power settings across computers and monitor power consumption and computer activity.
  • Operating System Deployment Improvements: Provides pre-staging of boot images and Windows Imaging Format (.wim) files on new computers that enables the administrator to apply a task sequence to the device that can use the pre-staged media.
  • Dynamic Collection Evaluation: Enables you to rapidly evaluate a collection membership by adding only newly discovered resources.
  • Active Directory Delta Discovery: Performs an intermediate discovery cycle that adds only new resources to the Configuration Manager 2007 database.
  • Simplified Resource Management: Enables you to search for and add resources to a specified collection.
  • Desired Configuration Management: Enables you to create a collection of compliant or noncompliant computers in desired configuration management.
  • Higher Number of Supported Clients Per Hierarchy: Configuration Manager 2007 R3 supports up to 300,000 clients per hierarchy when it uses the default settings for all Configuration Manager 2007 features. This increase in supported clients is the result of improvements to the Active Directory synchronization and Collection Evaluation processes

Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization v2 Beta Program available | How to deploy and manage with System Center Configuration Manager 2007

6 comments octobre 13th, 2010

Hi all,

A great news, Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization v2 Beta is available for download !

This version includes the ability to deploy and manage virtual machines with System Center Configuration Manager 2007 !!!

What’s New in this version?

  • No dedicated MED-V infrastructure to deploy – MED-V 2.0 workspaces are deployed and managed using existing electronic software distribution (ESD) systems, including System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2007 R2 or higher.
  • Streamlined sign-on to the MED-V workspace – Users can save their passwords for seamless sign-on to the MED-V workspace.
  • Automatic application publishing – New applications deployed to MED-V workspaces, including App-V virtual applications, are available to the Windows 7 host automatically.
  • My Documents and Desktop redirection – Legacy applications work just like locally installed applications when it comes to opening, saving and printing documents.
  • USB device/SmartCard support – USB devices, including thumb drives and Smartcard readers can be shared between the host and applications running in the MED-V workspace.
  • New Internet Explorer redirection options – IT administrators can redirect legacy web applications using wildcards (http://*.example.com), sites (http://www.example.com/hr), at the page-level (http://www.example.com/hr/benefits.asp) or by specifying a port (http://vpn.example.com:1234)
  • Automated guest hibernation at shutdown – The MED-V workspace is seamlessly suspended when the user logs off or shuts down the Windows 7 host.

Example of document content (how to distribute with SCCM) :

SYSTEM CENTER CONFIGURATION MANAGER OVERVIEW
In this scenario, the administrator installs all of the components with System Center Configuration Manager (CM). Here the administrator makes sure that the MSIs are packaged appropriately for the CM and the content of the MSIs is accessible to the users via the CM. With CM, there is also the capability to do Task Sequencing to make sure that the order and integrity of the installs are correct. The packages will be distributed against a set of requirements (Window 7 machines in this department) and in a particular order – VPC, VPC Patch, MED-V Host Agent, and MED-V workspace and then the machine would need to be rebooted to complete the install. Once the machine is restarted, MED-V will start automatically – the RUNKEY entry for MED-V was entered during the MED-V workspace install – and the user will be prompted to complete FTS.
